TWO PICTURES: Fidget Blanket campaign
I work at East Surrey hospital and I spend a lot of time with Dementia patients. The hospital will be starting a campaign to help make or donate Items needed to make a Fidget Blanket. They will be working with the WI and local media in regards to this. I'm also going to help make some.
Items needed include:
Fabric, wool, old clothes, zips, buttons, clips, ribbon, Chucky beads, eyelets, old baby toys with plastic rings/keys on or fabric books which are in good condition which can be sterilised or washed. Anything that can be twiddled with but not break. A variety of textures are always good.
These will be given to the patient during there stay in hospital and to then take it home when well enough.
Children are often calmed by their favourite toy or blanket, a person with Alzheimer’s or Dementia can also be soothed by a Fidget Blanket.
Often, during later stages of dementia, their hands fidget as though agitated or searching for something to hold. The person with dementia/Alzheimer's may pull on their clothing or bedding, rubbing their hands up and down.
The Fidget Blanket has pockets, zippers, buttons and other bits, and can keep their hands busy for hours. They can be large to lay across their lap or as small as needed.
If you can help in donating a bits or even help make one it would be very much appreciated.
items can be dropped into reception at East Surrey hospital for the attention of:
